Project Organization

Lesson Summary

Project organization in Fusion 360 can play a crucial role in managing complex designs. Here are a few approaches you can consider:

  • My Projects: This default folder is suitable for single object models or one-off designs that don't require further modification.
  • Single Project: For more complex designs, placing all parts in one project allows for common references and variables that can be shared.
  • Multiple Design Files: If you don't need common references, you can create more complex models by combining different design files or downloading parts from the internet.

When using multiple design files, Fusion 360 offers the ability to link designs. Linked designs are indicated with a small link symbol. If a linked component gets updated, a yellow exclamation mark appears, allowing you to update the component.

However, keep in mind that you cannot link references or parameters from linked files in your design.

When exporting projects, ensure that all parts you want to export are visible. If you make parts invisible, they will not be included in the final export.

Here's a handy trick: exporting designs via the right-click and "save as mesh" option is faster than using the file menu. This applies to exporting STL files or other file types like step files.

Remember that project organization is a matter of personal preference. Feel free to experiment with different approaches and find the one that suits your needs best.
